Competitive Team Policies
All Company members (including parents) represent Stepping Out Dance Studio and are held to a higher standard of behavior, participation, and dedication. The following guidelines must be observed at all times.
Team members are required to purchase a uniform, earrings, make-up, choker, and any other required accessory in order to be on the team.
Team members are expected to attend summer intensives, auditions, choreography week, Company showcase, all scheduled competitions including awards, January Jam, extra practices, and Nationals.
Team members are required to take a weekly conditioning class that is included in the Company fees as well as the ballet class requirement at Stepping Out.
All routines are the property of Stepping Out and cannot be competed independently or under another organization’s name or credentials.
Elite team members are required to take 2 ballet classes weekly at Stepping Out.
Elite tap team members may be required to purchase custom tap shoes.
All dancers must take the corresponding technique class with each competitive group.
Company group placement is at the discretion of the team directors and instructors and prerequisites may be utilized.
Dancers must announce their participation on the team by "Commitment Day" and pay the Company deposit to secure your spot on the team. This deposit is non-refundable and deducted from your monthly company fees.
All company fees are non-refundable. Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances, (i.e. accident, injury, death in the family) but cannot be guaranteed.
All Company fees must be current by October 1st so that costumes can be ordered. If costumes are not ordered, you may be choreographed out of your dance.
All costumes remain the property of Stepping Out Dance Studio until the end of the dance season, including Nationals.
All Company fees must be current by January or you will be choreographed out of the dance.
A change fee will be charged to anyone who drops or adds a competitive group after the choreography has begun.
Team members may not accumulate more than three unexcused absences per class per semester.
All team members are expected to wear the Stepping Out company uniform to and during competitions.
All team members must arrive at each competition at least one hour prior to their first scheduled dance ready to perform, and to stay through the applicable awards ceremony.
All team members/parents are responsible for observing and educating their guests in proper auditorium etiquette. Never enter or exit an auditorium during any performance and observe all auditorium and competition rules at all times.
All team members are expected to be supportive, cooperative and positive role models at the studio and all events. They must always show respect of fellow team members, instructors, and Stepping Out staff as well as dancers and representatives of other studios. Any violation of this may result in expulsion at the discrepancy of the owner.
Solo, Duet, Trios
- Team Director must approve all solos, duets, and trios. This includes choreography, music, costume(s), etc.
Competition entry fees must be paid two (2) months prior to competition date.
All instruction fees are to be paid through Stepping Out. Payment should not be made directly to any teacher.
All outside choreography must be approved by and financial arrangements must go through Stepping Out. Scheduling of practices must go through the studio if outside choreography or student choreography is used. All outside choreography and student choreography must be approved by studio directors and must meet at least 4 times with a Stepping Out instructor for approval and cleaning before it will be allowed to compete. Studio space rental and private instruction fees will apply.
All solos, duets, and trios are the property of Stepping Out and cannot be entered in any competition as an independent entry or under another organization’s name or credentials.
All Company fees must be current in order to compete with a solo, duet, or trio.
You must be in a minimum of two (2) competitive group dances to compete with a solo, duet, or trio.
You must take your technique and ballet classes from Stepping Out in order to compete with a solo, duet, or trio.
If purchasing solo/duet/trio costumes through the studio, a $75.00 deposit must be made before October 1.
Adherence to these guidelines is essential to creating a fun, supportive, and organized learning environment for all of our dancers. Failure to comply may result in removal from the competitive team or expulsion from the studio at the discretion of the Team Director or Studio Owner.
